چکیده

When insulin is infused into a brachial artery of normal men at a constant rate of 100 uU per minute per kg of body weight, there appears rapidly evidence of increased glucose uptake by forearm muscles and by forearm adipose tissue, a shift from net potassium loss to potassium uptake by muscle, increased K uptake by adipose tissue, and marked decrease in release of free fatty acids (FFA) by forearm adipose tissue (1, 2). When insulin is infused at the same rate into a brachial artery of patients with active acromegaly, into normal men in whom endogenous growth hormone activity has been increased by a 3-day fast, or into normal men simultaneously with human growth hormone (HGH) in the same syringe, there is evidence of less than the normal response to insulin with respect to glucose uptake by forearm muscles and by forearm adipose tissue (3-7). In every instance, however, the response with respect to FFA release was at least as great as that occurring in normal men to whom only insulin was exhibited. Interpretation of the combined effect of HGH and insulin on K uptake is com-

The Effects of Simvastatin on Free Fatty Acids Profile in Fructose-fed Insulin Resistant Rats

Backgrounds: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is the most common metabolic disease and free fatty acids, as signaling molecules, can play a crucial role in the development of it. Different free fatty acids, through various cell membrane receptors, induce different effects on metabolic pathways and thereby affect insulin sensitivity. Simvastatin is a cholesterol decreasing drug prescrib...

Effects of safflower oil on FBS and lipid profile in alloxan induced diabetic rats and its mechanism

Background & Aim: Diabetes mellitus often has been referred to as a syndrome of disordered metabolism, usually due to a combination of hereditary and environmental causes, resulting in abnormal of high blood sugar levels (hyperglycemia). Nowadays, no-drug treatments (medicinal plants) are novel therapeutic approaches in the treatment of diabetes. Experimental: This study aimed at assessing the...

The effects of post-partum drops in body condition on indices of energy metabolism in mid-lactation Holstein cows

Background: Evaluation of energy metabolism indices in mid-lactation Holstein cows is critical to monitor health status. Aims: The objective of this study was to assess the effects of low (≤0.75) vs. high (>0.75) drops in body condition score (BCS) until day 60 post-partum on energy metabolism indices during mid-lactation in Holstein cows. Meth...

Impaired insulin action on skeletal muscle metabolism in essential hypertension.

Previous studies have shown that essential hypertension is frequently associated with insulin resistance. The tissues responsible for this metabolic alteration have not been defined. We tested the hypothesis that skeletal muscle is the site of insulin resistance of essential hypertension with the use of the perfused forearm technique. Eight hypertensive (age 42 +/- 3 years, body mass index 27 +...
